Abalone: From the ocean floor through the courtroom door
The 2013 abalone season ended last Nov. 30 and began again this year on April 1. And, as has been the case for the last several years, the 2013 season was marked by turmoil, tedium and ultimately triumph, especially in the sentencing phase at Ten Mile Court.

Last Mendocino defendants plead guilty in Kansas pot case
All seven Mendocino County residents charged in a Kansas federal court for drug trafficking have pleaded guilty. The few remaining defendants, including the alleged ringleaders in Kansas, are due to go to trial on April 28.

Willits pair plead guilty to federal pot charges
Two Willits residents acknowledged in a Wisconsin federal courtroom they "knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute marijuana, a Schedule 1 controlled substance."
