Tsunami warning tests to be monthly

The first of a series of monthly tsunami warning tests will begin Wednesday, Nov. 5, and the first Wednesday of each month thereafter. The Office of Emergency Services will test the tsunami sirens that have been placed in the Fort Bragg and Point Arena areas.

Local burn suspension lifted

Willits CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit Chief Christopher P. Rowney, in conjunction with the Mendocino County Fire Chiefs Association, and the Mendocino County Air Quality Management District , rescinded the 2014 Countywide Burn Suspension of dooryard and large pile burning officially Saturday, October 25, The 2014 Fire Season has not yet been declared closed, so burn permits are still required.Residents who obtained a CAL FIRE Burn Permit last spring are advised to check the dates on their Burn Permit to ensure it is still valid. Burning Permits can be obtained at CAL FIRE's Howard Forest Headquarters 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Threat of Sudden Oak Death spurs temporary Jackson Demonstration State Forest trail closure

The Trestle Trail will be closed annually, during the wet season to try and slow the spread of the invasive pathogen that causes Sudden Oak Death. California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Mendocino Unit is closing the "Trestle Trail" between Camp 8 and JDSF Road 1070 on Jackson Demonstration State Forest to mushroom gathering and other recreational activities, effective immediately.
