Local fishermen recover seismologic buoy
Local Fort Bragg fisherman Bill Forkner and his crew on the F/V Miss Shirley were surprised in August when they encountered what appeared to be a large floating yellow plastic buoy, while albacore fishing about 60 miles off the southern Oregon coast.

Woman hit by truck, killed in Fort Bragg

According to the FBPD, officers responded to the Beachcomber Motel in the 1100 block of North Main Street around 6 p.m. Oct. 17 when it was reported that a truck had hit a pedestrian and injured her before fleeing the scene. When officers arrived, according to the FBPD, they found the victim, 45-year-old Karen Zuehlsdorf of Oakland, unconscious and lying on the ground while firefighters and witnesses attempted to revive her by performing CPR.

Fracking ban on the ballot in tiny San Benito County has big statewide implications

When President Ronald Reagan was pushing for offshore oil drilling on the edges of Monterey Bay in the mid-1980s, Santa Cruz voters fought back, approving a ballot measure that banned construction of all storage tanks, pipelines and other oil equipment in the city. The small protest vote was soon copied by 25 other coastal communities, from San Diego to Fort Bragg, helping to kill the oil industry's drilling plans.

PumpkinFest: Ukiah goes to the monsters - er, kids

The disco balls hanging over the large pumpkins on display at the PumpkinFest Saturday seemed to attract more attention than the pumpkins themselves. Some light rain visited Ukiah Friday night, but the skies cleared beautifully Saturday to welcome attendees of the city's 21st annual Pumpkinfest.

Clay Eubank has been in Anderson Valley since 2010. His partner Sarah Farber is the Captain of the Yorkville Station. It was through their involvement with firefighting that they met at the National Fire Academy. His firefighting career started in 1991 in Capay Valley west of Woodland near Davis where he retired as chief in 2010.
