Ukiah animal shelter under cat quarantine
The Mendocino County animal shelter in Ukiah is temporarily not accepting cats after at least one kitten at the shelter died of the virus Feline Panleukopenia last week. Giant mushroom discovered in Fort Bragg

Kenneth Jones of Fort Bragg found this giant Boletus edulis "on private property with permission" just a few miles north of Fort Bragg. Jones is a plant aficionado who owns Forest Lane Nursery.

County still counting ballots in Nov. 4 election

Thousands of ballots are yet to be counted before results of the Nov. 4 election are declared final, Susan Ranochak, Mendocino County Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder reported Thursday, Nov. 6. Her office has 13,072 vote-by-mail ballots yet to process and 452 provisional ballots to review and process as part of the official canvass, Ranochak said in a news release. About 3,000 ballots remain to be counted in the Mendocino Coast Healthcare District board election, said Katrina Barolomie, assistant clerk-recorder.
